The AMFI Registration Number (ARN) is valid for 3 years. To ensure your mutual fund commissions keep flowing without interruption, you must renew it before the expiry date. Under Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) guidelines, you can initiate the renewal process up to 6 months prior to expiry.
The entire process in India is completely online, paperless, and Aadhaar-based.
Prerequisites Before You Start
-
Aadhaar Mobile Link: Your Aadhaar card must be linked to your active mobile number for OTP e-verification.
-
Validity Check: Ensure you do not wait until the last minute. If your ARN expires, you cannot legally solicit mutual funds, and your accrued trail commission can be suspended.
Phase 1: Revalidate Your NISM Certification
Before applying for the ARN renewal on the AMFI portal, you must renew your mandatory educational qualification. You have two options:
-
Option A: Attend a NISM CPE / eCPE Program (Most Common)
-
Instead of a full-length exam, most distributors choose the Continuing Professional Education (CPE) route.
-
You can attend a physical classroom session (6 hours) or complete an online e-CPE session (3.5 hours) from home.
-
Register and pay the fee (~₹2,500) via the NISM CPE Portal.
-
-
Option B: Re-write the NISM Series V-A Exam
-
Book a slot and clear the standard Mutual Fund Distributors Certification Exam.
-
Crucial Note: Once you clear your eCPE or exam, wait 8 business days. The system takes this long to automatically share your status with CAMS/AMFI so you can proceed to Phase 2.
Phase 2: Online ARN Renewal on the AMFI Portal
Once your NISM certificate is updated, the online registration portal is highly automated.
