IRDAI IC 38 Corporate Agents Mock Test 2026

IC 38 is the pre recruitment examination mandated by IRDAI for anyone being appointed as an insurance agent or working under a corporate agent in India. It is conducted by the Insurance Institute of India. Clearing it is a regulatory requirement rather than an optional credential, so without it you cannot be appointed at all.

The paper is entirely multiple choice and carries no negative marking. Two formats are in circulation: a 50 question paper, and a 100 question paper of 120 minutes with a 60 percent pass mark. Which one you sit depends on the category and channel you are being appointed under. Confirm the exact format with your sponsoring insurer or the Insurance Institute of India before you book, because preparing for the wrong paper length is the most common avoidable mistake candidates make.

The syllabus splits into four recognisable blocks. Insurance principles and the regulatory environment covers risk pooling, the role of IRDAI and the legal principles of utmost good faith, insurable interest, indemnity, proximate cause, subrogation and contribution. The agent role, conduct and ethics block covers duties to client and insurer, prohibited practices and grievance redressal including the Insurance Ombudsman. Product knowledge differs by whether you sit the Life, General or Health paper. Documentation and claims covers proposal forms, nomination and assignment, lapse and revival, the free look period and the claims process end to end.

Principles and conduct generate a disproportionate share of questions and are the cheapest marks on the paper, because they reward understanding rather than memorisation. Most candidates under prepare them because the material reads like common sense until the exam asks something specific.

How to prepare for IC 38

Candidates fail IC 38 for one of two reasons. They read the IRDAI study material once and mistake familiarity for recall, or they never practise against a clock and then rush a paper that was never conceptually difficult.

Read the study material for your paper once at normal pace without highlighting everything. Then switch to practice questions as your main study tool rather than as a final check. When you get one wrong, go back and read that specific section properly. This is far more efficient than a second full read through.

Because there is no negative marking, your closing strategy is fixed. With two minutes left, fill in every remaining blank. A guess costs you nothing and a blank guarantees zero.

Sit at least two full papers under real time pressure before exam day. This free Set 1 runs on the real format and returns a topic wise score report, so you can see whether you are losing marks on principles, on product knowledge or on documentation before it counts.
